Usana's founder is an award-winning scientist, not a businessman.

Dr. Myron Wentz has a PhD in Immunology and Microbiology. Before he started Usana in 1992, he spent 20 years developing and manufacturing 30+ diagnostic tests at Gull Laboratories to detect infections and certain autoimmune disorders.

Part of his job at Gull was to create a nutritional system to grow the healthiest and best functioning human cells that will survive in his laboratory. Cellular nutrition, after all, has always been his expertise, even before Usana.

When he realized that his parents and brother and so many other people are dying prematurely from chronic degenerative diseases, he decided to shift his focus from diagnosis to health promotion and disease prevention by supplying the nutrients that the human cells really need to function properly and to remain healthy.

By doing market research, he discovered that none of the nutritional supplements back then had the right combination, amount, and balance of nutrients to support the complex needs of human cells. He thought, if no facility in the whole world could manufacture nutritional products that could cater to the needs of the cells, then he would start one. That’s when he started Usana.

Dr. Wentz received the Albert Einstein Award for his Outstanding Achievements in Life Sciences in 2007.
